Short answer: When a 4/a employee’s contract ends, the exit notice goes to the Social Security Institution via e-Sigorta within 10 days after that day. Severance, if at least one full year and a qualifying exit apply, is 30 days of dressed gross per year, capped, and only stamp duty is deducted. Notice is 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks, and notice pay is subject to income tax.
The file that is closed in a hurry mixes two dates. One is the employee’s last day. The other is the day the notice reaches the Institution. Severance and notice pay use the first date. A late notice creates an administrative fine. The amount of the fine changes, so this article does not print one. The sequence is the reverse of the first-employee checklist.
When is the exit notice due?
For a 4/a employee, insurance ends on the day the employment contract ends. The exit notice is filed within the following 10 days. The count starts the day after the exit. If the last day is a public holiday, filing on the next business day is still in time. Weekends inside the period count.
The notice is filed through e-Sigorta. Paper or post, even inside the 10 days, does not replace the electronic filing. The exit date matches the termination letter and the personnel file. Moving the date to make the filing easier breaks the next employer’s record and the unemployment record.
If the employee works through a notice period, the contract ends when that period ends. In an immediate termination, the exit is the day the termination takes effect. A delay in the final wage calculation or in a release does not extend the 10 days.
| Item | When | If it slips |
|---|---|---|
| Last working day | The day the contract ends | Severance and notice use this day |
| Exit notice | 10 days after the exit, via e-Sigorta | Delay creates an administrative fine |
| Final payroll | The month the wage belongs to | A blank missing-day code inflates contribution days |
| Withholding return | The 26th of the next month | The exit does not postpone the return |
The exit code and the last wage
The reason on the notice has to match the reason in the termination. The code affects severance and the unemployment record. The code list is long and it is updated. A memorised number does not replace the reason in the letter. The code is chosen with the letter.
The last payroll’s day count matches the days actually worked and paid. A missing day carries a reason code. Severance and notice pay sit on their own lines. A cash settlement splits the bank payment from the return. The payment goes through the bank, and the description carries the month and the name.

How is severance calculated?
Severance does not arise for less than one full year with the same employer. On a qualifying exit, the amount is 30 days of dressed gross for each full year. Remaining months and days are prorated. Dressed gross is base pay plus regular benefits such as transport, meals and bonuses. An irregular premium does not automatically enter dressed pay.
Pay cannot exceed the severance ceiling in force on the day the contract ends. The part above the ceiling is left out. The current ceiling, by exit date, is in the severance and notice pay calculator. Income tax and social security are not deducted from severance. Stamp duty is. The minimum-wage stamp exemption on wages does not apply to severance. Stamp duty is calculated on the whole severance amount.
How many weeks is the notice period?
For an indefinite-term contract, notice is 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks by length of service. The steps match the Labour Code and the calculator on this site.
| Length of service | Notice |
|---|---|
| Less than 6 months | 2 weeks |
| 6 months to 18 months | 4 weeks |
| 18 months to 3 years | 6 weeks |
| More than 3 years | 8 weeks |
The employee may work the period. If not, notice pay is due. Notice pay is not capped. Income tax is calculated on the year-to-date base. Stamp duty is also deducted. The net of notice pay cannot be reduced to one rate the way a stamp-only severance figure can. The calculator asks for the cumulative base inside the year.
A departure during probation does not create uninsured days. Hiring rules are in the first employee article. The exit month’s return is still due on the 26th of the following month. The full set of dates is in the monthly tax calendar.
Mistakes that repeat
- Starting the 10 days on the exit day itself. The count starts the next day.
- Filing the notice after the severance negotiation ends. The wage calculation does not extend the period.
- Choosing an exit code that differs from the letter.
- Deducting income tax from severance, or paying above the ceiling.
- Closing notice pay with stamp duty only, as if it were severance.
- Leaving the missing-day code blank and inflating contribution days.
A second employee’s exit does not copy the first employee’s code. Each person has a separate notice, a separate day count and a separate payment. If the workplace stays open, a new workplace registration is not required. What is required is a timesheet and a withholding line that match the exit.
A foreign employee’s exit falls under the same 10 days. A work permit does not replace the exit code. The permit’s end and the contract’s end may differ. The file keeps both dates. The service that keeps payroll and exits on one calendar is on the payroll and social security page.
Frequently asked questions
How many days do you have to file the exit notice?
Within 10 days after the contract ends, via e-Sigorta. The count starts the next day. If the last day is a holiday, the next business day is still in time.
Is severance due on every exit?
No. It needs at least one full year with the same employer and a qualifying reason. Less than a year produces no severance.
What is deducted from severance?
Not income tax and not social security. Stamp duty is calculated on the whole severance amount. The ceiling is the one in force on the exit day.
Is the notice period always 8 weeks?
No. It is 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks by length of service. Notice pay is not capped, and it is subject to income tax.
Does the exit postpone the withholding return?
No. The withholding and contribution return for the wage month is due on the 26th of the following month.
Is a paper notice enough?
No. The notice is filed via e-Sigorta. A hand-delivered or posted form does not replace the electronic filing.
Conclusion
On an exit, the day the contract ends is written first. The notice goes via e-Sigorta within the following 10 days. Severance depends on the ceiling and on one full year, and the deduction is stamp duty. The notice period follows length of service, and notice pay is taxed.
